Elzik's Farewell 2001Highland Fusion now has a repertoire of ten original choreographed dances. Generally in performances, they intermix these with traditional dances, or traditional dances set to more modern music, depending on what type of function the performance is for.
The Tinker Set

Set to the music of the Wicked Tinkers, Highland Fusion choreographed this dance especially for the band and debuted it at the Kern County Scottish Games in 2006. We love this dance and its fun 20's flair, and we've been thrilled to get the opportunity to even perform it live twice with the Tinkers!
Dance Exhibition

Dance Exhibition Costume

"Dance Exhibition" is one of Highland Fusion's newer choreographies, and is their second piece set to the music of the Victoria Police Pipe Band. A truly complex work, "Dance Exhibition" epitomizes Highland Fusion's intense energy and creative enthusiasm for bringing fresh innovations to traditional Scottish dance.
The Plaid Jam

The Plaid Jam

For this dance, we chose a piece of music of the same name, by the Scottish Rogues. They are a talented band out of Texas with some really upbeat music--perfect for Highland Fusion!
Elzik's Farewell

Elzik's Farewell Hornpipe Costume

This is a very fun dance, set to a piece of music by Seven Nations. Seven Nations is a Scottish rock band with original pieces as well as traditional music. It is performed in a traditional Hornpipe costume with tons of energy and audiences always love it!
The Broadsword

The Broadsword-Kilts with Swords

This is Highland Fusion's trademark dance, with four dancers dancing over four swords. It was originally choreographed for a choreography competition in June of 1996. This dance is set to the music of Brother, a popular Scottish rock group from Australia. A Broadsword is a traditional type of Scottish dance, but Highland Fusion increases its energy level by incorporating many different dance techniques, including intricate modern choreography, with Highland steps. It is performed in the tradition Scottish costume of a kilt. The song is entitled "Romp and Circumstance."
Mr. Maintenance

Mr. Maintenance Costume

This dance is choreographed to another song of the same name by Brother. It is performed in a non-traditional costume of a plaid skirt and blouse. This dance is more modern than some of the other dances that the group has created, but still incorporates many traditional steps.
Victoria Police Pipe Trio

Pipe Trio Costume

This dance is choreographed to a song by a pipe trio in the Victorian Police Pipe Band called "The Hellbound Train." It was first performed at the San Diego Highland Games in June of 1999. This is performed in an outfit of black pants and a leotard, showing and influence from modern dance. However, the costume still incorporates the group's Scottish background with the use of various tartan sashes. This dance uses a majority of modern steps along with some traditional high-energy steps as well.
Reel

Reel-Traditional Kilts

This is a dance that was choreographed to a song called "The Apple Tree." A reel is a traditional style of dance that is performed with four dancers in a line. They do different travelling movements and weave throughout the line. The costume is the traditional kilt and vest. Different versions of reels can be seen in competition. This short dance uses mostly variations on traditional reel steps, with some modern ones intermixed.
Free Rein

Free Rein Costume

This dance was choreographed to the song of the same name by Alasdair Fraser, a popular Scottish fiddler. It has a predominantly Irish influence, as a majority of it is based on steps from the Irish Jig, a Scottish version of the dance that originates from Ireland. This dance is performed in the same costume as the Irish Jig, which is that of an Irish washerwoman -- generally with red and green colors. This dance also includes some modern steps amongst the Scottish versions of Irish Jig steps.
The Maestro and the Minions
This dance was choreographed specifically for the Cameron Highlanders Annual Tartan Ball in 1997. The song, called "The Maestro and the Minions, was performed by the Cameron Highlanders Pipe Band. This is done in one of the variations of the traditional National costume of a white dress and tartan sashes. It utilizes mostly National dance steps, as well as a few modern ones.
